The aim of the Expansion and Refurbishment of Kočín Substation project is to strengthen the energy security of the transmission grid. The implementation of this project will contribute to improving the quality, safety and sustainability of electricity supplies to end customers. It will also enable the development of industry and business in the relevant locations.

The project focuses on ensuring sufficient transmission capacities and improving the substation’s technical parameters to ensure reliable operation even in extraordinary operational modes. The project output is the modernised Kočín substation, with improvements in capacity, safety, resilience and reliability of operation. There will also be an increase in the security and reliability of this node, something of strategic importance to the Czech distribution grid.

The current Kočín substation site is near the Kočín and Dříteň municipalities. The substation’s expanded site will have an area of approx. 21.7 ha. There is no structure associated with the presence of people close to the substation.

Project name: Modernisation of the EMET inovation s.r.o. Production Site + Energy Saving Measures in the Hlinsko II Operational Building - Modernisation of One Site in Two Stages

Project description:

The project’s aim is to reduce the energy intensity of business operations and therefore reduce their negative impact on the environment. The project is focused on the implementation of comprehensive energy saving measures and on improving the building’s external insulation, which will ensure the project has a positive impact on the environment. The project’s implementation will expand the business activities of the company and improve its competitiveness.

The project includes a number of economy measures, such as insulation of the outside walls of the building, floor and roof structures, the replacement of original doors and windows, the replacement of the existing lighting with new economical sources, the installation of energy-efficient heat sources, the installation of forced ventilation for zone 1 with heat recuperation, and preparations for hot water supply.

The total fuel and energy savings were calculated to be 830.3 GJ.

Project name: Modernisation of the Hot Water Pipeline on Tyršovo nábřeží Stage 1 and Modernisation of the Hot Water Pipeline on Tyršovo nábřeží in Zlín, Stage 2

Project description:

The project’s aim is to modernise and optimise the existing heat supply network, including transfer stations, with the aim of achieving maximum primary energy savings. The project is focused on the replacement of part of the existing hot water pipeline dating from the 1950s with a new hot water pipeline on the route of the current hot water pipeline at Tyršovo nábřeží in Zlín.

During the comprehensive modernisation of the defined section of the backbone hot water pipeline network, a smaller new pipeline will be installed with new insulation. The pipeline will be placed in new steel structures. In the construction part, the upper panels of the heat channel will be replaced with new reinforced concrete panels with new waterproofing.

In connection with the project, it will be necessary to implement new connectors for existing customers in branch shafts with a connection to the existing connectors. The modernisation of the hot water pipeline will provide significant primary fuel savings and a reduction in emissions. The project’s implementation will have a marked impact on the operability of the hot water pipeline by increasing reliability and reducing accidents and thus the necessity of emergency work.

It is a significant project for society and, in particular, residents and enterprises in Zlín.

Project name: Reduction in SOx Emissions at the Mělník I Power Plant, K1-K6 Boiler

Project description:

The project’s aim is to build a new, completely desulphurised facility at the Mělník I Power Plant using the wet limestone process, including ensuring, using or rendering harmless all products and waste that arise during the waste desulphurisation process.

The basic technical concept is addressed through the construction of new technology for desulphurising combustion products and through alterations to current technological units for desulphurising combustion products. The technical solution includes the release of space for the construction of new desulphurisation equipment, i.e. the demolition and moving of current buildings, construction of a modern facility with tried-and-tested technology and readiness for a subsequent upgrade. The project’s implementation led to a reduction in SO2 emissions to 406.3 t/year and a reduction in solid pollutant emissions to 62.58 t/year. This means that compared to the original value of 2 069.3 t of SO2, after the measures were implemented there was a reduction of 1 663 t and in the case of solid pollutants after project implementation there was a reduction in emissions of 75.4 t.

The project’s implementation is necessary for compliance with EU standards and thus to maintain deliveries of heat to Prague Capital City.

Project description:

The project’s aim was to introduce combined electricity and heat generation at the Stora Enso Wood Products Ždírec s.r.o. industrial site in Ždírec nad Doubravou.

The company processes wood, which leads to a large quantity of wood waste, i.e. biomass. The creation of its own heat source has given the company the option of effectively using its wood biomass to produce its own heat and electricity.

The energy outputs were linked to the current heat and electricity distribution systems. The heat source was designed using a back-pressure steam turbine with an electrical generator. The steam for driving the turbine will be produced in high-pressure boilers burning biomass. The boilers will have an efficiency corresponding to BAT and will be fitted with modern equipment to reduce pollutant emissions. Hot water to ensure the plant’s technological needs will be heated in a transfer station using steam, and heat will be piped in the form of hot water into the plant’s utility systems.

The implementation led to an increase in heat production efficiency and the addition a heat source for the production of electricity, with a direct impact in the form of a reduction in emissions of relevant substances, primarily CO2.

Research and Development of a Continuously Variable Transmission for Use in Trucks

Project description: 

The project’s aim is research and development of a continuously variable transmission with a proprietary design that can be built in to trucks for various types of uses (fire, goods, rescue, with special superstructure, municipal, forestry and agricultural, military, etc.). This new transmission will replace the current one and will also cope with large power outputs for secondary drives with constant engine revs independent of the vehicle’s speed.

The project also includes checking the technical parameters for such a CVT transmission, designing its software, the control method, and dealing with integration into a specific truck. The CVT transmission is being developed in a single size and performance class for engines with outputs from 300 kW to 450 kW.

The transmission is being developed by EXCALIBUR ARMY, spol. s r.o., in cooperation with TATRA TRUCKS a.s. at the research and development centres of both companies in Šternberk and Kopřivnice.

The project’s aim is research and development of a multipurpose vehicle platform with an electric drive. This is useful, in particular, for racing cars in motor sport, as well as for other sectors like municipal service vehicles and rapid medical, security and fire service vehicles at airports with a limited callout radius.

The universal electric platform is a complete chassis containing axles with electric motors, axle suspension, pedals, battery boxes and other features, supplemented with a cart with a back-up power supply for charging in places with limited access to charging stations and the necessary safety elements with regard to the chosen type of drive.

For the project implementation, a prototype universal electric platform with four electric motors was created and fitted to a lightened chassis of a mass-produced vehicle available on the market. The universality of the electric platform gives the option of using various types of chassis, according to the specific application in practice. At the same time, electrical platform control software was developed to regulate and optimise the operation of all the electric motors, torque vectoring, the development of a safe power source that can withstand extreme impacts, etc.

The project implementation location was the Entry Engineering s.r.o. site in Mladá Boleslav, and also the research and development facilities of the partners SIGMA MOTOR s.r.o. in Přerov and the Brno University of Technology.

Project description:

The project’s aim is research and development of an active radar antenna system for measuring the polarimetric properties of objects of interest, which include, for example, vehicles, people, drones, and more. The newly developed antenna is a basic part of the radars that ELDIS Pardubice s.r.o. manufactures and supplies to its customers.

In the project in question, the term “active antenna system” was introduced for the newly developed radar antenna. This system contains two basic antenna subsystems for broadcasting and receiving, which are located one above the other. Each of the antenna subsystems comprises many identical basic antenna elements (the project concerns optimised Vivaldi antenna elements), which are connected to each other by signal distribution networks.

In cooperation with University of Pardubice, ELDIS Pardubice s.r.o. developed the hardware part of the radar’s antenna and in the project also designed and verified polarimetric methods of processing the signal that the antenna captures. The resulting antenna and the proposed measurement methods that are the output from the project will serve as a basis for the construction of new types of ELDIS radars in future years.

The project was carried out at the ELDIS Pardubice s.r.o. site in Pardubice, as well as at the research and development facilities of the partner, University of Pardubice.

Project description:

The project’s aim is to start the production of innovated cyclohexylamine (CHA) and di-cyclohexylamine (DCHA) products, and the related innovation of their production process. This project enabled a move and the introduction of innovated CHA production to a new production unit, and the optimisation of the current production unit only for the innovated production of DCHA, where innovated CHA and DCHA products were put into production.

The new concepts in the technology for CHA and DCHA production differ in many regards from the previous production process, as they take into account innovations to products developed based on long-term operational experience with amino acid production, research and development of products and processes in cooperation with the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague and, primarily, current modern trends in chemical product production. The project achieved, in particular, stabilisation of the quality of the resulting products and, last but not least, a reduction in waste generation (primarily a lower environmental burden from CO2 emissions).

Project description:

The project’s aim is the introduction of a fully automatic operation for processing leather that meets Industry 4.0 conditions together with an overall reduction in the environmental burden from production while maintaining the required qualitative and economic parameters. 

The total investment of CZK 193 million includes the acquisition of new technology enabling the beneficiary to innovatively process leather, including intelligent systems for recognising defects with the option of related alterations to the production process on the line. By innovating the process and purchasing the new technology, the applicant will be able to process a new type of material called “wet white”, i.e. materials that do not contain chrome. 

From the viewpoint of competing solutions on the market, these are unique materials not offered by any other manufacturer, as this is an expensive solution that is demanding in terms of quality.

Project description:

The project’s aim is the digitalisation of production in the leather-working industry through the acquisition and installation of systems to organise production, taking into account Industry 4.0 principles.

The project enables the company to manage the production process online, perform related analyses and subsequently alter the formula and parameters for processed leather after every processing stage. Technology for automatic leather processing, such as a creasing machine and roller, a belt sander, an equalisation machine, sorting equipment, rolling barrels, a softening machine, and sensing equipment will be purchased.

The whole production process uses several work nodes that will be managed from one place, ensuring bilateral communication so that individual production operations are optimised with regard to the quality of the material and the requirements for the resulting product. The total project costs were calculated to be almost CZK 95 million.
